Block Saws

A block saw is a bench-mounted wet saw built for the material a brick saw can’t handle large besser blocks, limestone retaining blocks, kerbing, pavers and precast elements. Larger blade diameters mean deeper single-pass cuts, and heavier frames and motors mean the machine holds accuracy through repetitive production cutting.

What block saws cut:

Besser blocks and concrete masonry units — full-height cuts through 190mm and 290mm block without flipping

Limestone retaining blocks — the standard for Perth retaining walls, where block size demands larger blade capacity

Kerbing and channel — repeat production cuts to consistent dimension

Pavers and large-format stone — clean edges on material too thick for a portable saw

Precast and lintels — where cut depth is the limiting factor

Blade size and cut depth:

Blade diameter determines maximum cut depth, which is usually the deciding factor in a block saw purchase. Work backwards from the thickest material you cut regularly, then add margin, cutting at the absolute limit of a machine’s capacity slows production and shortens blade life.

Block saws are wet-cut machines with a recirculating pump and tray. Beyond extending blade life and improving cut quality, water is the primary engineering control for respirable crystalline silica when cutting concrete, limestone and masonry. Run the saw with adequate water flow and maintain the tray a block saw run dry is both a blade-killer and a health risk.
