Drill Stands

A drill stand carries the core drill motor, holds the bit square to the surface and feeds it under controlled pressure which is why anything above roughly 100mm diameter should be drilled on a stand rather than handheld. Beyond that size the reaction torque becomes genuinely dangerous, and accuracy over any real depth becomes impossible to hold by hand.

Choosing a stand:

Three things decide it, in this order:

Core diameter. The stand has to be rigid enough for the largest bit you’ll run. Undersizing shows up as chatter, bit wander and premature segment loss well before it shows up as a broken stand.

Column length. This sets how deep you can go in a single setup and whether the motor clears the work. The KS50XL exists specifically for deep or high-clearance drilling where a standard column runs out of stroke.

Base type. Vacuum for speed and for surfaces you can’t drill into. Anchor for everything else  see below.

The stand is half the rig:

These are stands only. To drill you’ll also need a rig-mounted drill motor and core bits, plus a vacuum pump if you’re running a vacuum base and a water collection ring for wet drilling indoors.
